Is a JUUL with No Nicotine Safe?
It’s no one secret that smoking is not a healthy habit. The ills of tobacco and more recently nicotine have come into sharp focus for the number of adverse health effects they can cause or exacerbate.
In part because of the known adverse effects of tobacco, vaping products like JUULs have taken off in the past twenty years or so. Usage figures vary according to source, naturally, but estimates from the Truth Initiative suggest that somewhere around 2.9% of adults over 24 use JUULs.
Figures for younger users are even higher. According to the same estimates, anywhere between 7% to more than 12% of users aged 15-20 use vaping products, specifically JUULs.
Which, on its surface, is not a particularly troubling statistic, except for the manner in which JUULs have been used.
Draw activated and discrete, JUULs are a useful, practical alternative to cigarettes in areas where smoking is prohibited. Moreover, many users adopted them as a tobacco cessation product, enabling them to cope with the short-term effects of nicotine withdrawal. The idea is to use it for a short time before weaning off of it.
Unfortunately, that is not how some users use the JUUL. Sometimes, users adopt a JUUL with no intention of quitting eventually and end up JUULing for the long term.
Moreover, some young users start JUULing without ever smoking in the first place. When a user starts to vape using a JUUL in this manner, the JUUL, unfortunately, adopts the role of a gateway drug.
Another issue lies with the fact that JUULs enjoy a popular perception as “safe,” because they are not tobacco products, despite the fact that they contain nicotine.
We’re one of the companies that’s changing all that, both with our unique, nicotine-free vaping products and by spreading information. So, are JUULs with no nicotine safe? Here are some of the facts.

What’s the Big Deal with Nicotine?
Part of the issue lies with the perception that nicotine itself is safe and free of the harmful effects of tobacco and tobacco-related products. It’s not quite accurate to label nicotine and products that contain nicotine, like nicotine e-liquids, as safe.
They don’t necessarily pose the same exact health risks as smoking, but they’re responsible for enough of their own. That means that nicotine vape juices and vape devices that take them are not necessarily a safe alternative to smoking cigarettes, especially for users that stop smoking and then continue vaping with them for the long term.
Among other things, nicotine consumption is known to cause the following side effects:
●Nicotine itself is addictive, and withdrawal can cause cravings, irritability, and difficulty sleeping.
●Nicotine use is linked to high blood pressure and the hardening of the arteries.
●Nicotine can cause increased sweating and nausea, chronically and in the short term.
●It can cause a variety of forms of gastrointestinal distress, both over the short and long term.
●While nicotine can decrease inflammation, it is also believed to compromise immune function.
●Nicotine use in high quantities can also cause acute nicotine poisoning, which can be deadly but more often than not causes nausea, confusion, lightheadedness, and more.
As you can see, it is not simply tobacco and its carcinogenic effects, but nicotine itself that is implicated in a wide range of health risks.
That makes a JUUL with no nicotine - or nicotine-free vaping substitute - much less risky (if not safer) than a standard JUUL with nicotine.
What Can You Use Instead of a JUUL with No Nicotine?
Because of the risks associated with nicotine, JUULs with no nicotine are preferable to those that contain it. There is a wide range of vaping products available that do not contain nicotine, but there is one more caveat that must be offered before you get started vaping without nicotine.
Some vaping products are made without nicotine and still contain ingredients that are believed to be harmful when inhaled. For example, some vape products - even those that are free of nicotine - are made with “food-grade ingredients” and make promises of safety.
Unfortunately, being made with “food grade” ingredients is not necessarily good enough. This is because some ingredients that are safe when ingested are believed to be harmful when inhaled.
Case in point: consider diacetyl, a flavoring agent frequently used in movie theater popcorn for its pleasant, buttery flavor. While this ingredient can be safely used as a flavoring additive intended to be ingested, it’s linked to a condition known as “popcorn lung” among vapers. This condition, a buildup of scar tissue within the lungs, can cause shortness of breath and other breathing difficulties.
Another ingredient commonly encountered in vape liquids, even among those that are free of nicotine, is vitamin E acetate.
Vitamin E acetate is believed to cause the surfactant layer of the lung to collapse, causing shortness of breath, inflammation of the lungs, and other breathing difficulties.
Therefore it is not always enough simply to produce a formulation that is free of nicotine but to create a formula that is free of other known harmful ingredients. A JUUL with no nicotine is a step in the right direction but may not solve the problem outright.
PG, VG, and Flavoring Only, Made in America!
Giving vapers around the country a better product, period, is what drives us. That’s why we’ve gone above and beyond the call of nicotine-free vaping products.
Not only are our vape liquids nicotine-free - they’re free of other harmful additives like vitamin E acetate and diacetyl that are implicated in causing some of the conditions mentioned above.
In fact, our vape liquids contain nothing but propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG) along with some natural and artificial flavors. That’s it - no nicotine, no known harmful ingredients. Just PG and VG so you can vape billowing clouds, with some extra flavor thrown in for good measure.
Additionally, all of our vape juices are made right here in America, so we can take control over the entire production process.
