Ultra pouches are nicotine-free oral pouches sold in three formulas: Ultra Focus uses Enfinity paraxanthine instead of caffeine, Ultra Energy has 180 mg of caffeine, and Ultra Sleep has 1 mg of melatonin. Ultra prints full Supplement Facts for Energy and Sleep but no doses for Focus on takeultra.com, and we found no published lab report for any of them, so our verdict is a qualified yes: Focus is worth trying if you want a stimulant that isn't caffeine, at about $1.07 a pouch, but buy cans one-time before you agree to a subscription.
Labels and FAQs checked on takeultra.com on Oct 24, 2026; prices re-checked Nov 2, 2026. PubMed records checked Oct 24 and re-searched Nov 2, 2026.
We make Cyclone Focus Pouches, which compete with Ultra, so read this with that in mind. Where Ultra's label or its science is better than ours, we say so below.
What Are Ultra Pouches?
Ultra pouches have no nicotine. They're tobacco-free oral pouches made by Ultra (takeultra.com), used the way you'd use a nicotine pouch. Ultra launched in May 2025 with a paraxanthine focus pouch, then added Sleep and, most recently, a caffeinated Energy line. Every can holds 15 pouches. Ultra ships to the US and Canada.
The names get confusing, because "Focus" is a crowded word in this aisle. Ultra Focus is one product. Dialed In Nootropics sells pouches at focuspouches.com, NZE has a Focus line, and ours are Cyclone Focus Pouches. We write the brand in front every time.
The company is venture-funded. Ultra, whose founder and CEO is Eric Drymer, announced an $11 million Series A on January 20, 2026, led by Left Lane Capital (Pulse 2.0). Ultra says it sold more than a million cans in its first six months; that's the company's figure, and we can't check it.
What's in Ultra Pouches?
That depends on the can. The Energy and Sleep pages show a Supplement Facts panel with a dose for every active. The Focus page names six actives (Enfinity paraxanthine, L-theanine, alpha-GPC, ginseng extract, vitamins B6 and B12) and gives no amounts. The Focus doses below come from the Supplement Facts panel on Ultra's Amazon listing.
| Formula | Main active | Other actives | Sweeteners and flavors | Ultra's daily limit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ultra Focus | Enfinity paraxanthine, 100 mg | Alpha-GPC 30 mg, L-theanine 10 mg, Panax ginseng extract 1 mg, vitamins B6 and B12 | Xylitol, sucralose, mannitol, natural flavors (Amazon label) | 4 pouches |
| Ultra Energy | Caffeine (anhydrous), 180 mg | L-theanine 10 mg, niacin (B3) 10 mg, B6 2 mg, B12 2 mcg | Sucralose, stevia, natural and artificial flavors | 2 pouches |
| Ultra Sleep | Melatonin, 1 mg | L-theanine 50 mg, lemon balm 12 mg, chamomile 10 mg, passionflower 10 mg, magnesium 1.8 mg (as magnesium gluconate) | Xylitol, Reb M, natural flavors | 2 pouches a night (Ultra's "2-pouch method") |
Ultra Energy pairs its 180 mg of caffeine with 10 mg of L-theanine, and Ultra's page says the L-theanine curbs the jitters and crash. The study usually cited for that pairing, Haskell et al. in Biological Psychology (2008, PMID: 18006208), used 250 mg of L-theanine with 150 mg of caffeine. Energy carries 1/25th of that L-theanine dose.
One label claim doesn't hold up. Ultra's FAQ says all Ultra pouches are "free of artificial additives," yet the Energy panel lists "Natural and Artificial Flavors" and sucralose, and the Focus panel on Amazon lists sucralose too. The Sleep panel, to its credit, uses natural flavors and says so.
For fairness, the disclosure gap cuts against us too. Our 400 mg blend lists its ingredients but not the amount of each; we publish only the caffeine. Ultra's Energy and Sleep labels tell you more than ours does.
Do Ultra Pouches Have Caffeine?
Ultra Energy does: 180 mg per pouch, which Ultra compares to a large coffee or an energy drink. Ultra Focus and Ultra Sleep contain no caffeine. Focus is not stimulant-free, though. Paraxanthine is what your liver turns most caffeine into; in a 1986 study of five volunteers, about 80% of a caffeine dose became paraxanthine (PMID: 3756066).
The main selling point Ultra makes for Focus is that paraxanthine clears faster than caffeine, with a "25% shorter half-life." That one checks out. In Lelo et al.'s companion study in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology (1986, PMID: 3756065), paraxanthine's half-life was 3.1 hours against 4.1 for caffeine in six healthy men, about 24% shorter. Ultra still tells customers not to use Focus within 4–6 hours of bedtime.
At 180 mg, Ultra Energy sits near the top of the range; our caffeine pouch rankings list the doses brand by brand.
Are Ultra Pouches Safe?
The published research covers some of Ultra's ingredients, not the pouches themselves, so we can't tell you they're safe for you. Paraxanthine's human trials are small and short: the longest we found ran 7 days, at up to 200 mg a day. Caffeine is well studied, and a single Ultra Energy pouch is 180 mg of it. We haven't reviewed the melatonin research. If you use Ultra, stay within the daily limits on its label, and ask a doctor first if you're pregnant, nursing or on medication.
Paraxanthine (Ultra Focus)
In Xing et al. (Nutrients, 2021, PMID: 34960030), 12 adults took 50, 100 or 200 mg of Enfinity paraxanthine daily for 7 days, with no difference from placebo in reported side effects or blood chemistry panels. Yoo et al. (Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, 2024, PMID: 38725238) gave 12 trained runners a single 200 mg dose and also saw no rise in side-effect ratings. Both trials were industry-sponsored, with co-authors from Ingenious Ingredients, the company behind Enfinity. A 2026 trial in 14 rowers that reported no conflicts, also at 200 mg, found paraxanthine alone came with better self-rated sleep than the caffeine conditions (PMID: 41918248).
Paraxanthine is still a stimulant. Benowitz et al. (Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 1995, PMID: 8529334) gave 12 volunteers caffeine or paraxanthine at 2 or 4 mg/kg. Both raised diastolic blood pressure and adrenaline, and at 4 mg/kg (about 280 mg for a 70 kg adult) by a similar amount.
Ultra's Focus directions allow up to 4 pouches a day, and at 100 mg each that's 400 mg of paraxanthine a day: twice the top dose in the only multi-day human trial we found (200 mg a day for 7 days), and above the single doses in the others. That doesn't make 400 mg unsafe. It means nobody has published a trial at that dose yet.
Caffeine (Ultra Energy)
Ultra's daily cap of two Energy pouches comes to 360 mg of caffeine. The FDA cites 400 mg a day, "about two to three 12-fluid-ounce cups of coffee," as an amount not generally associated with negative effects for most adults (FDA, content current as of Aug 28, 2024). A 2017 systematic review of caffeine's adverse effects, Wikoff et al. in Food and Chemical Toxicology (PMID: 28438661), reached the same 400 mg for healthy adults and 300 mg in pregnancy. By the FDA's own coffee math, two Energy pouches plus one 12-ounce coffee puts you past 400 mg. Our guide to how much caffeine is too much covers how to count it.
Melatonin (Ultra Sleep)
Ultra Sleep's main active is 1 mg of melatonin, and Ultra's "2-pouch method" makes that 2 mg a night. We don't make a sleep product and haven't reviewed the sleep research for this page, so we're not grading it.
Who should skip Ultra
Start with Ultra's own FAQ: it tells pregnant or nursing women, people on prescription medication and people with a health condition to ask a doctor first, and it markets Energy to adults 18 and over. If a doctor has told you to avoid caffeine, the Benowitz data above is a reason to ask about paraxanthine too. None of these products is FDA approved, because the FDA doesn't approve dietary supplements before they're sold. For the wider question, see are caffeine pouches safe.
Do Ultra Pouches Work?
Ultra Energy works the way 180 mg of caffeine works; that part isn't in doubt. Ultra Focus has a thinner but real evidence base. In the Xing trial, 100 and 200 mg of paraxanthine improved some memory and reaction-time scores against placebo. In the Yoo trial, runners on paraxanthine made fewer of one type of error on a card-sorting test after a 10-km run than they did on caffeine.
The limits matter. Each trial had 12 people, and both were industry-sponsored. The rowing study, which reported no conflicts, found no clear performance gain from paraxanthine alone at 200 mg; its edge was self-rated sleep. Focus's other actives come in small amounts (1 mg of ginseng extract, 10 mg of L-theanine), so we'd credit the paraxanthine for whatever you feel. Ultra says each pouch lasts 1–2 hours and suggests 3–4 a day.
Are Ultra Pouches Legit?
Yes. Ultra is a funded company selling a real product, and its Energy and Sleep labels carry Supplement Facts and the FDA disclaimer. Two things to know before you buy. Ultra publishes no lab report: we found no certificate of analysis, testing lab or third-party testing claim on its product, FAQ or science pages. And its subscription is where most complaints land.
The ratings split. Ultra's site shows a 4.92/5 average. Of the 20 most recent reviews of takeultra.com on Trustpilot (Aug 18 to Oct 30, 2026), 19 are one-star, and most describe unexpected subscription charges or trouble cancelling. Trustpilot notes Ultra hasn't invited customers to review recently, so that sample leans toward people with a complaint. Both numbers are probably true, about different groups of buyers.
A testimonial on the Ultra Focus page comes from Harley Miller, listed as "CEO, Left Lane." Left Lane Capital led Ultra's Series A. Nothing is hidden there, but the page doesn't mention the investment.
How Much Do Ultra Pouches Cost?
$16 for a can of 15 pouches at list price on takeultra.com, about $1.07 a pouch. Bundles of 3, 6 and 9 cans list at $48, $96 and $144, so buying more doesn't lower the list price. Discounts come through subscriptions and promotions: the Focus page advertised offers from 25% to 45% off when we checked. Shipping is free on orders of $50 or more.
At Ultra's suggested 3–4 Focus pouches a day, a month is 90–120 pouches, or 6–8 cans: $96–$128 at list price, before any discount.
Where Can You Buy Ultra Pouches?
Online. Ultra sells direct at takeultra.com, shipping to the US and Canada, and Ultra Focus is also listed on Amazon. We found no store locator on takeultra.com and couldn't confirm a single chain that stocks Ultra in stores (checked Oct 24, 2026). For "Ultra pouches near me," online is the dependable answer; a local shop that carries them is a stockist Ultra doesn't list.
What Do Reddit Users Say About Ultra Pouches?
On Oct 31, 2026, we read three Reddit threads that rank in Google for Ultra pouch searches: about 120 comments from nootropic hobbyists, grapplers and airsoft players. Most of the recent comments are about billing, not the pouch.
Two disclosures first. The r/grapplersgraveyard review was posted by a reviewer who links to Ultra with an affiliate code. And our own Reddit account replied in that thread on Oct 29, 2026, identifying itself as Cyclone Pods. We quote neither post below.
Billing. In that thread, at least nine commenters from May to October 2026 describe orders they say they didn't place, or charges after they tried to cancel. One believed Ultra had "pulled my saved data from the Shop app to automatically resubscribe me" (May 3, 2026). Another got a next-shipment notice, tried to skip the order the same day, and says "they shipped it anyway"; Ultra declined a refund because it's "a consumable product" (May 15, 2026). The same complaint shows up on r/NooTopics: "If you buy their product, you will automatically be subscribed" (Apr 29, 2026).
The pouch itself. Reports are mixed. An r/MilSim user said they "work decently. Pretty expensive tho," and that the "Mint flavors are pretty bad in comparison to their non mint flavors" (June 6, 2026). On r/NooTopics, one commenter wrote "You'll get more impact from a cup of half-caf" (Dec 30, 2025). Another, who drinks coffee in the morning and switches to paraxanthine after 11 a.m., said "I've been sleeping much better" (Sep 23, 2026). That fits the rowing study above, and it's one person. A grapplersgraveyard commenter who bought on Amazon "had no issues" but found they "only have like 3 flavors on there" (Oct 25, 2026).
Reddit is a self-selected sample, like Trustpilot: people with a billing problem are more likely to post. Still, the same subscription complaint turns up on Trustpilot and in two subreddits, which is why we'd buy Ultra one-time first.
Ultra vs Cyclone Focus Pouches
We sell Cyclone Pods Focus Pouches. That makes us a direct competitor to Ultra, and this section is biased. The table includes the rows we lose.
| Product | Stimulant and amount | Other actives | Nicotine | Pouches per can | Price per can | Cost per pouch | Published lab report |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ultra Focus | Enfinity paraxanthine, 100 mg (Amazon label); no caffeine | Alpha-GPC, L-theanine, Panax ginseng, B6, B12 | None | 15 | $16 | $1.07 | None found |
| Ultra Energy | Caffeine, 180 mg | L-theanine 10 mg, B3, B6, B12 | None | 15 | $16 | $1.07 | None found |
| Ultra Sleep | None (melatonin 1 mg) | L-theanine, lemon balm, chamomile, passionflower, magnesium | None | 15 | $16 | $1.07 | None found |
| Cyclone Focus Pouches | Caffeine from guarana: 39–48 mg caffeine measured per pouch (lot 202605; label 50 mg) | 400 mg blend: phosphatidylserine (from soy), ashwagandha, reishi, lion's mane, cordyceps, bacopa monnieri (amounts not published) | None | 20 | $9.99 | $0.50 | Yes: Certified Laboratories, Burbank, CA (lot 202605) |
Where Ultra wins. The Energy and Sleep labels print every dose, and ours prints only the caffeine. Ultra Focus also gives people who avoid caffeine a stimulant option. We don't make a caffeine-free pouch.
Where we win. Price per pouch, $0.50 against $1.07, and a lab report you can read. Lab-measured caffeine: 39–48 mg per pouch across our 4 flavors (Certified Laboratories, lot 202605, Aug 2026: Mint 39, Cinnamon 40, Peach 44, Wintergreen 48 mg; label 50 mg). Those results come in under our label, and we publish them anyway in our Focus Pouches lab report.
The rest comes down to preference. One Ultra Energy pouch has more caffeine than three of ours, and per milligram of caffeine it costs less than ours. We built Focus Pouches, 20 for $9.99, around 50 mg so you can space them through a day; our directions cap use at 6 pouches a day and say they're not for children, pregnant or nursing women, or anyone sensitive to caffeine. Cyclone Focus Pouches contain phosphatidylserine from soy.
Comparing Ultra with other brands? We cover Flow vs Ultra in our Flow review and Alpha vs Ultra in our Alpha review, and we rank all of them in our best nootropic pouches list.
Cyclone Focus Pouches are a dietary supplement. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
Are Ultra Pouches Worth It?
Ultra Focus is worth one bundle if caffeine doesn't sit well with you and you still want a stimulant. Paraxanthine is the most interesting active in the pouch aisle, and Ultra's half-life claim holds up against the 1986 data. Hold off on the subscription until you know you'll use 3–4 a day, because that's $96–$128 a month at list price, and Trustpilot and Reddit show how hard some buyers found it to cancel.
Energy is a straightforward 180 mg caffeine pouch at a premium price. Ultra Sleep we haven't judged beyond its label. And if what you want is caffeine you can space out across a day, with a lab report behind it, that's the pouch we make.
