No published lab results. Geek Bar's manufacturer hasn't released third-party testing data for the zero-nicotine line. We'd trust this product more if they did.
Build quality is solid. The dual-mesh coil system produces noticeably denser vapor than single-coil competitors, and it comes in a Boost mode that bumps wattage. Flavor selection is wide — over 20 options in the zero-nicotine version.
Highest Puffs From Another Brand — OXBAR x Pod Juice Magic Maze 2.0

The catch: no published ingredient transparency beyond "0% nicotine." We couldn't find independent lab results, and OXBAR's website doesn't list specific ingredients (VG/PG ratios, flavoring grades) the way some competitors do. If you care about what's in the liquid — and you should — that's a gap.
Best Budget — ELFBAR BC5000 0%

ELFBAR is everywhere — gas stations, smoke shops, online. The BC5000 0% version is the easiest way to try nicotine-free vaping without committing to a $20+ device. Walk into any vape shop and they'll have it.
The drawback is math. At 5,000 puffs for $15, you're paying $3.00 per thousand puffs — four times more than the OXBAR on a per-puff basis. If you know you want nicotine-free long-term, the ELFBAR is the most expensive option on this list over time.
Flavor quality is middle of the road. The 0% versions sometimes taste slightly different from their nicotine counterparts — a few Reddit users report the flavors are "flatter" without nicotine's kick. We noticed the same thing with the Watermelon Ice variant.
Best Lab-Tested and Transparent — Why Published Lab Results Matter
"0% nicotine" is a label claim. A lab report is a fact.
Here's what we mean. Any manufacturer can print "nicotine-free" on packaging. The FDA doesn't pre-approve these claims for non-tobacco products. The only way to verify the claim is independent, third-party laboratory testing using validated analytical methods.

Best Plant-Based — ARRØ Max
Around 10,000 puffs. About $16. ARRØ's pitch is "plant-based, zero-everything."
Credit where it's due: ARRØ built a strong brand around the quitting-nicotine narrative. Their marketing speaks directly to people who want to stop and need something in their hand while they do it. The ARRØ Max is their top-end device — zero nicotine, zero tobacco, and they claim zero diacetyl and formaldehyde.
ARRØ calls their formula "plant-based." Their website references PG, VG, and "natural flavorings" — similar ingredients to most nicotine-free vapes, including ours. The "plant-based" distinction is mostly branding. VG (vegetable glycerin) is plant-derived in every vape, not just ARRØ's.
The ARRØ Max is a good device. Solid build, decent flavor. It's also the only competitor on this list you can buy at Walmart, which gives it distribution reach that pure D2C brands can't match. At $16 for ~10K puffs, it's mid-range on cost.
What's missing: published lab results. ARRØ says their products are "lab-tested and certified" but doesn't publish the certificate of analysis or name the testing laboratory.
Best Assembled in the USA — Cyclone Pods Gust Core
Rated for 50,000 puffs from an 18ml tank, for $25. Three power levels, an LCD that shows liquid and battery, USB-C charging (a full charge takes under an hour) and nine flavors. The Gust Core is assembled in the USA: we assemble the device and fill the e-liquid here, and the hardware is sourced overseas, like every disposable on this list. That works out to $0.50 per 1,000 rated puffs.
It runs the same USP-grade VG, PG and food-grade flavoring base as the Gust Pro. The Gust Pro stays our overall pick because its lab results are public.
Not nicotine-free: Nixodine vapes
Two high-puff devices sold as "0% nicotine" use Nixodine instead: the Fifty Bar 20K Nixodine and the Lost Mary MT35000 Turbo Nixodine (Lost Mary also sells a separate zero-nicotine MT35000). Nixodine is 6-methyl nicotine, a lab-made nicotine analog built to mimic nicotine's throat hit. Retailers sell it as "non-nicotine"; one retailer, FiftyBars.com (not affiliated with the maker), adds that it "is not harmless." No peer-reviewed safety data exists yet, so we don't count either device as nicotine-free.
Fifty Bar says the 20K is filled and assembled in Thousand Oaks, California, from globally sourced hardware. It is well built, but Nixodine is the reason it is not on our list.
What Makes a Nicotine-Free Vape Actually Safe?
We look for two things in a nicotine-free vape: verified ingredients (USP-grade VG, USP-grade PG, food-grade flavorings — nothing else) and published third-party lab results from an accredited laboratory. Of the eight devices in our table, only two meet both today: the Gust Pro and the Lightning.
No vape is 100% safe. Inhaling anything other than air carries risk. But the risk gap between tested and untested products is real.
Ingredients matter. USP-grade vegetable glycerin, USP-grade propylene glycol, and food-grade flavorings are the base. Anything beyond that — synthetic compounds like Nixodine, vitamin additives, essential oils — adds variables with less safety data. Simpler is better.
Two specific compounds to avoid: diacetyl (causes bronchiolitis obliterans, or "popcorn lung") and vitamin E acetate (the primary cause of the 2019 EVALI outbreak that hospitalized over 2,800 people and killed 68, per the CDC EVALI investigation, February 2020).
Lab testing is the dividing line. Not "we test our products." Not "lab-tested and certified." A certificate of analysis from an accredited laboratory, with the lab's name, accreditation number, analytical method, and detection limits. If a brand can't produce this document, they either haven't tested or didn't like the results.
If you're comparing the safest vapes on the market, published lab results are the single clearest signal.
Is It Healthy to Vape Without Nicotine?
Healthier than vaping with nicotine. Not as healthy as not vaping.
Removing nicotine eliminates the addictive compound and its cardiovascular effects — increased heart rate, elevated blood pressure, arterial stiffness. A 2020 systematic review in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology found that nicotine-free vaping produces measurably less cardiovascular stress than nicotine vaping.
